A familiar game is back on McDonald's packaging, and this year's version leans fully into the peel-and-scan format.
Monopoly returned on October 6 for the second year in a row, with a $1 million grand prize on the line and a long list of menu items that carry a game piece.
What's Different This Year
Last year, some of the game pieces were digital. This time around, every piece is physical. You'll still need the McDonald's app to take part, since each peel has to be scanned there to redeem prizes or collect properties.
Which Menu Items Include Game Pieces
Breakfast items with pieces include Hash Browns, McMuffin sandwiches, and Biscuit sandwiches. Large drinks are eligible all day, including large soft drinks, iced coffee, iced tea, specialty McCafé beverages, and large hot McCafé drinks such as Premium Roast Coffee, lattes, mochas, cappuccinos, Americanos, macchiatos, hot tea, and Premium Hot Chocolate.
After breakfast, you can find pieces on Large French Fries, 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, the Quarter Pounder with Cheese, the Big Mac, and 4-piece McCrispy Strips.
A Bonus Way to Play
Guests who order through the McDonald's app, or who use their Rewards code when ordering, also get a bonus Chance Card play. It's an extra shot at a prize on top of whatever is under the peel.
What You Can Win
Prizes range from free food and Rewards points to bigger Collect to Win rewards like trips and vehicles, and the top prize is $1 million. McDonald's says that grand prize is paid out as $50,000 a year for 20 years.
Where and When to Play
The main game runs from October 6 through November 1 at participating U.S. restaurants, while Chance Card play continues through November 8. Registration in the McDonald's app is required, so it's worth getting that set up before your next order.
The Takeaway
If a Big Mac or a morning hash brown is already part of your routine, this is a low-effort way to add a few extra chances to win. Just remember that nothing counts until it's scanned in the app.
