Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

2 tablespoons butter

2 cups thinly sliced onions

1 clove garlic, minced

1 tablespoon flour

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 cup beef broth

4 slices provolone cheese

4 buns hamburger buns

to taste salt and pepper

Directions

1.

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add butter. Once melted, add the sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, for about 10 minutes until the onions are softened and caramelized.

2.

Add the minced garlic to the onions and cook for another minute until fragrant. Stir in the flour and cook for an additional minute to eliminate any raw flour taste.

3.

Add the ground beef to the onion mixture, breaking it apart with a wooden spatula. Cook until the beef is browned and fully cooked, which should take about 5 to 7 minutes.

4.

Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce into the skillet. Stir well and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.

5.

Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally so flavors meld together well.

6.

Place a slice of provolone cheese on the bottom half of each hamburger bun, then spoon the beef mixture onto the cheese and place another slice on top.

7.

Cover the assembled buns with their tops and heat in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese has melted perfectly.

8.

Serve the French Onion Beef Sloppy Joes hot, with additional toppings or condiments of your choice, such as sautéed mushrooms or mustard.
