Check Your Fridge Now: Taylor Farms Recalls 20 Ready-To-Eat Products at Major Retailers Over Salmonella

Check Your Fridge Now: Taylor Farms Recalls 20 Ready-To-Eat Products at Major Retailers Over Salmonella

Healthy Fact of the Day

This recall is a reminder that fresh jalapeños — like all fresh produce — can be a vector for foodborne illness, particularly when sourced from regions with different agricultural water safety standards. During an active Salmonella investigation, it’s smart to avoid raw fresh jalapeños in any form until the source is confirmed and resolved. Cooking jalapeños thoroughly kills Salmonella, so roasted, sautéed, or otherwise cooked jalapeños from your own kitchen carry significantly lower risk than raw or ready-to-eat products containing them. If you’ve recently eaten any of the recalled products and develop symptoms — especially fever alongside gastrointestinal distress — contact your healthcare provider promptly and specifically mention potential Salmonella exposure so they can order the right test.

This one is serious and spreading fast.

The FDA announced a recall yesterday by Taylor Fresh Foods of 20 ready-to-eat products sold at Walmart, Trader Joe’s, Target, Kroger, Whole Foods, Stop & Shop, and Hannaford — all containing jalapeños traced back to a Salmonella outbreak that has already sickened 345 people and resulted in 36 hospitalizations across multiple states. The same contaminated jalapeños from Sinaloa, Mexico have also been linked to illnesses connected to Chipotle and Qdoba.

Taylor Farms says it has no confirmed illnesses linked specifically to its products — but the source ingredient is the same, and the FDA is urging consumers not to consume any of the affected items.

The Bigger Outbreak Picture

This recall is part of a larger FDA and CDC investigation into a multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to fresh jalapeños sourced from Sinaloa, Mexico. The same supply chain has been connected to illnesses at Chipotle and Qdoba locations. As of August 10, 345 confirmed cases and 36 hospitalizations have been reported — and public health officials note the true number of infections is almost certainly higher, as most Salmonella cases go unreported.

Taylor Farms says it has stopped sourcing jalapeños from the affected farm and is filling orders from alternative suppliers.

What to Do

Do not eat any of the recalled products. Throw them away immediately or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.

If you’ve already consumed any of the affected products, monitor for Salmonella symptoms: fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Symptoms typically appear within 6 hours to 6 days of exposure. Salmonella can be more serious — and potentially fatal — for young children, elderly adults, and anyone with a weakened immune system.

Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you are experiencing symptoms.

For questions about the recall, contact Taylor Fresh Foods customer care at 855-455-0098, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT.

The Bottom Line

Taylor Farms has recalled 20 ready-to-eat products sold at Walmart, Trader Joe’s, Target, Kroger, Whole Foods, Stop & Shop, and Hannaford across 26 states due to Salmonella-contaminated jalapeños. Check the full product list and UPC codes above. If you have any of these products, do not eat them — discard them immediately or return for a refund.
